DANIEL 6 Interlinear Overview
(follows Hebrew verse numbering which puts the last verse of Daniel 5 as the first verse of Daniel 6)
Daniel is prime overseer of Babylon under Darius the Mede.
The other leaders conspire against Daniel
for execution in the lion’s den.
Daniel’s miraculous deliverance.
Daniel 6:1
And Darius the Mede
received the kingdom
as a son of sixty two years.
Daniel 6:2
It was good with Darius
that he established over the kingdom
a hundred and twenty satraps
in order that they would be in the whole realm
Daniel 6:3
and above them three overseers
(of whom Daniel was first)
in order that these satraps should be delivering
business information to them
so that the king should not be suffering loss
Daniel 6:4
This Daniel then
was being distinguished
above the overseers and satraps
because an excellent spirit was in him
and the king was minded
to set him up over the whole kingdom
Daniel 6:5
The satraps and overseers thereupon
were seeking fault in Daniel
from the kingdom’s perspective,
but any cause finally was found
unfindable,
because he was trustworthy
and any negligence or corruption
was not found on him.
Daniel 6:6
those men then saying
“We shall not find any fault in this Daniel,
unless we get hold over him
through the law of his God”
Daniel 6:7
These overseers and satraps then
throng in upon the king
and thus are saying to him
“King Darius, live forever!
Daniel 6:8
All the chief ministers of the kingdom
have mutually agreed:
The presiding heads and the satraps,
the counsellors and the governors,
to establish the Statute Royale
and so confirm a prohibition
that whoever should seek
a petition from any god
or man within thirty days
except from you, O king,
shall be thrown into the Den of Lions
Daniel 6:9
Now O king,
can you issue the interdict
and undersign the document
in order that it be not subject to change
according to the law of Media and Persia
that does not become invalid.
Daniel 6:10
According to the face of this
king Darius undersigned the document
and so the interdict.
Daniel 6:11
And when Daniel knew
that the document had been signed
he went to his house;
and windows having been opened for him
in his upper room toward Jerusalem
nonetheless three times in the day
he is getting down on his knees
and praying and giving thanks
in the presence of his God
as he had been doing previously.
Daniel 6:12
Those men then assembled excitedly
and they find Daniel
requesting and seeking mercy
before his God.
Daniel 6:13
Thereupon they draw near and are saying
before the king concerning the interdict:
“Did you not sign a prohibition
that anyone who should petition any god
or man for thirty days
except you O king
will be cast into the Den of Lions?”
The king answering and saying:
“The word is certain
according to the law of Media and Persia
that does not become invalid”.
Daniel 6:14
Then they respond and
are saying before the king
“Daniel, he who is from
the children of the exile of Judah
He has not paid attention to you O king
or to the interdict which you signed
but three times in the day
is seeking his petition.”
Daniel 6:15
When the king then had heard the word
he was greatly displeased with himself
and concerning Daniel,
he determined to free him
and so until sunset
he exerted himself to save him
Daniel 6:16
Those men then,
they throng in upon the king
saying to the king:
“Know, O king,
what the law of Media and Persia is:
‘Any interdict or statute
that the king shall establish,
it is not to be changed.’
Daniel 6:17
The king then commanded
and they brought and threw Daniel
into the den of the lions
the king speaking up and saying to Daniel
“Your God, He whom
you are worshipping continually,
He will save you.”
Daniel 6:18
Then a stone was brought
and placed over the mouth of the pit
and the king sealed it with his signet ring
and the rings of his nobles
in order that not a thing
would change concerning Daniel.
Daniel 6:19
the king then went away to his palace
and spent the night fasting;
and musical instruments
he brought not in before himself;
moreover his sleep, it fled beyond him.
Daniel 6:20
Then at the dawn the king,
he arises at daylight,
and hurriedly heads out
to the den of the lions
Daniel 6:21
When he nears the pit, he cries out to Daniel with sorrowful voice,
the king speaking up and saying towards Daniel:
“O Daniel, servant of the Living God:
Your God, He Whom you were reverencing continually,
was He able to deliver you from the lions!?”
Daniel 6:22
Daniel then speaks with the king:
“O king, live forever !”
Daniel 6:23
My God sent His angel
and closed the mouth of the lions
and they did not harm me
because before Him innocence was found in me
and moreover before you, O king,
I have not committed a crime.
Daniel 6:24
Thereupon the king felt very good concerning him
and he commanded to take up Daniel from the den
and so Daniel was lifted up out of the pit
however on him was not found any injury
because he trusted in his God
Daniel 6:25
The king then commanded,
and they brought in these men
that had devoured Daniel’s very elements:
and so into the Den of Lions
the cast them, their children and their wives
and they had not reached the bottom of the pit
when the lions overpowered them
and crushed all their bones.
Daniel 6:26
Darius the king, thereupon,
he wrote to all the peoples,
the nations and the languages dwelling
in all the Earth
“May your peace increase”
Daniel 6:27
From my presence a decree is issued
that in the entire dominion of my realm
they should be trembling and fearing
at the presence of Daniel’s God
For He is the Living God
and stable for Eternity
and His Kingdom such that
will not perish,
or His Sovereignty, even to the end
Daniel 6:28
saving and delivering
and working signs and wonders
in the heavens and on the Earth;
He Who saved Daniel
from the power of the lions.
Daniel 6:29
And so this Daniel prospered:
in the reign of Darius
and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
