Daniel 3:1
נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר מַלְכָּ֗א עֲבַד֙ צְלֵ֣ם דִּֽי־דְהַ֔ב
Nebuchadnezzar the king,
he made an image of gold,
רוּמֵהּ֙ אַמִּ֣ין שִׁתִּ֔ין פְּתָיֵ֖הּ אַמִּ֣ין שִׁ֑ת
it’s height 60 cubits,
it’s width 6 cubits;
אֲקִימֵהּ֙ בְּבִקְעַ֣ת דּוּרָ֔א בִּמְדִינַ֖ת בָּבֶֽל׃
He set it up in the plain of Dura,
in the Province of Babylon;
Daniel 3:2
וּנְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר מַלְכָּ֡א שְׁלַ֡ח
Now Nebuchadnezzar the king,
he sent orders,
לְמִכְנַ֣שׁ ׀ לַֽאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֡א סִגְנַיָּ֣א וּֽפַחֲוָתָ֡א
To assemble the satraps (provincial governors),
the deputy governors and the district administrators,
אֲדַרְגָּזְרַיָּא֩ גְדָ֨בְרַיָּ֤א דְּתָבְרַיָּא֙ תִּפְתָּיֵ֔א
the advisor-counsellors, the treasurers,
the royal judges, the investigative police,
וְכֹ֖ל שִׁלְטֹנֵ֣י מְדִֽינָתָ֑א
And so all the provincial high officials; —
לְמֵתֵא֙ לַחֲנֻכַּ֣ת צַלְמָ֔א
To come to the dedication of the image,
דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ים נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֥ר מַלְכָּֽא׃
That which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up;”
Daniel 3:3
בֵּאדַ֡יִן מִֽתְכַּנְּשִׁ֡ין אֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֡א סִגְנַיָּ֣א וּֽפַחֲוָתָ֡א
Immediately assembling themselves, —
the provincial governors,
the deputy governors and the district administrators,
אֲדַרְגָּזְרַיָּ֣א גְדָבְרַיָּא֩ דְּתָ֨בְרַיָּ֜א תִּפְתָּיֵ֗א
the advisor-counsellors, the treasurers,
the royal judges, the investigative police,
וְכֹל֙ שִׁלְטֹנֵ֣י מְדִֽינָתָ֔א לַחֲנֻכַּ֣ת צַלְמָ֔א
and so all the provincial high officials, —
For the dedication of the image,
דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ים נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר מַלְכָּ֑א
That Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up;
וקאמין וְקָֽיְמִין֙ לָקֳבֵ֣ל צַלְמָ֔א
And were standing before the image,
דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ים נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּֽר׃
which Nebuchadnezzar had erected;
Daniel 3:4
וְכָרוֹזָ֖א קָרֵ֣א בְחָ֑יִל
Then the herald began proclaiming with might:
לְכ֤וֹן אָֽמְרִין֙ עַֽמְמַיָּ֔א אֻמַּיָּ֖א וְלִשָּׁנַיָּֽא׃
“Ye are commanded, —
O nations, peoples, and language groups: —”
Daniel 3:5
בְּעִדָּנָ֡א דִּֽי־תִשְׁמְע֡וּן
“At the time that ye hear
קָ֣ל קַרְנָ֣א מַ֠שְׁרוֹקִיתָא
the sound of the horn — the pipe,
קיתרוס קַתְר֨וֹס סַבְּכָ֤א פְּסַנְתֵּרִין֙ סוּמְפֹּ֣נְיָ֔ה
kitharos + sambuca (arched harp) + psalterion (dulcimer harp/piano), + symphonia (double-barrelled flute/bagpipe),
וְכֹ֖ל זְנֵ֣י זְמָרָ֑א
and all kinds of musical sound; —
תִּפְּל֤וּן וְתִסְגְּדוּן֙ לְצֶ֣לֶם דַּהֲבָ֔א
Ye must fall down and ye must worship the image of gold,
דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ים נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֥ר מַלְכָּֽא׃
That which Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up;”
Daniel 3:6
וּמַן־דִּי־לָ֥א יִפֵּ֖ל וְיִסְגֻּ֑ד
“And whoever will not fall down and worship, —
בַּהּ־שַׁעֲתָ֣א יִתְרְמֵ֔א לְגֽוֹא־אַתּ֥וּן נוּרָ֖א יָקִֽדְתָּֽא׃
shall be thrown forthwith
into the midst of the furnace of fire currently burning;”
Daniel 3:7
כָּל־קֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָ֡ה בֵּהּ־זִמְנָ֡א כְּדִ֣י שָֽׁמְעִ֣ין כָּֽל־עַמְמַיָּ֡א
Whereupon, at the very moment when all the peoples were hearing
קָ֣ל קַרְנָא֩ מַשְׁר֨וֹקִיתָ֜א קיתרס קַתְר֤וֹס שַׂבְּכָא֙ פְּסַנְטֵרִ֔ין
the sound of the horn — the pipe,
kitharos + sambuca + psalterion,
וְכֹ֖ל זְנֵ֣י זְמָרָ֑א
and all kinds of music;
נָֽפְלִ֨ין כָּֽל־עַֽמְמַיָּ֜א אֻמַיָּ֣א וְלִשָּׁנַיָּ֗א
All the peoples, the nations and the language groups were falling down,
סָֽגְדִין֙ לְצֶ֣לֶם דַּהֲבָ֔א
Paying homage to the image of gold,
דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ים נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֥ר מַלְכָּֽא׃
That which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up;
Daniel 3:8
כָּל־קֳבֵ֤ל דְּנָה֙ בֵּהּ־זִמְנָ֔א
Wherupon, at the very time,
קְרִ֖בוּ גֻּבְרִ֣ין כַּשְׂדָּאִ֑ין
Certain Chaldeans, they approached,
וַאֲכַ֥לוּ קַרְצֵיה֖וֹן דִּ֥י יְהוּדָיֵֽא׃
And they devoured pieces of them, of the Jews
(of the Jews, they concocted slander);
Daniel 3:9
עֲנוֹ֙ וְאָ֣מְרִ֔ין לִנְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֖ר מַלְכָּ֑א
They spake up then saying,
To Nebuchadnezzar, the king,
מַלְכָּ֖א לְעָלְמִ֥ין חֱיִֽי׃
“O king, live forever!”
Daniel 3:10
אנתה אַ֣נְתְּ מַלְכָּא֮ שָׂ֣מְתָּ טְּעֵם֒
“You O king, issued a decree,
דִּ֣י כָל־אֱנָ֡שׁ דִּֽי־יִשְׁמַ֡ע
That every man when he hears
קָ֣ל קַרְנָ֣א מַ֠שְׁרֹקִיתָא
the sound of the horn — the pipe,
קיתרס קַתְר֨וֹס שַׂבְּכָ֤א פְסַנְתֵּרִין֙ וסיפניה וְסוּפֹּ֣נְיָ֔ה
kitharos + sambuca + psalterion, and symphonia,
וְכֹ֖ל זְנֵ֣י זְמָרָ֑א
and all kinds of musical sound;
יִפֵּ֥ל וְיִסְגֻּ֖ד לְצֶ֥לֶם דַּהֲבָֽא׃
He must fall down and he must pay homage to the image of gold;”
Daniel 3:11
וּמַן־דִּי־לָ֥א יִפֵּ֖ל וְיִסְגֻּ֑ד
“Then whosoever will not fall down,
and will not pay homage,
יִתְרְמֵ֕א לְגֽוֹא־אַתּ֥וּן נוּרָ֖א יָקִֽדְתָּֽא׃
He shall be cast
into the midst of the furnace of fire,
currently burning;”
Daniel 3:12
“There are certain Jews,
דִּֽי־מַנִּ֤יתָ יָתְהוֹן֙ עַל־עֲבִידַת֙ מְדִינַ֣ת בָּבֶ֔ל
Them that you had installed
over the administration of the Province of Babylon, —
שַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ
Shadrach, Meshach and Aved Nego; —
גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֗ךְ
Those men,
לָא־שָׂ֨מֽוּ עליך עֲלָ֤ךְ מַלְכָּא֙ טְעֵ֔ם
They did not issue, on your behalf O king, the decree,
לאלהיך לֵֽאלָהָךְ֙ לָ֣א פָלְחִ֔ין
are not ministering to your gods,
וּלְצֶ֧לֶם דַּהֲבָ֛א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ימְתָּ
And to the image of Gold that you set up,
לָ֥א סָגְדִֽין׃ ס
Are not paying homage!”
Daniel 3:13
Immediately Nebuchadnezzar in anger and fury,
אֲמַר֙ לְהַיְתָיָ֔ה לְשַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ
Commanded to bring in Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego;
בֵּאדַ֙יִן֙ גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֔ךְ
Forthwith those men
הֵיתָ֖יוּ קֳדָ֥ם מַלְכָּֽא׃
were brought before the king;
Daniel 3:14
עָנֵ֤ה נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּר֙ וְאָמַ֣ר לְה֔וֹן
Nebuchadnezzar started speaking and saying to them, –
הַצְדָּ֕א שַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ
Truly, – Shadrach, Meshach and Aved Nego!?
לֵֽאלָהַ֗י לָ֤א אִֽיתֵיכוֹן֙ פָּֽלְחִ֔ין
To my gods, ye are not doing service!?
וּלְצֶ֧לֶם דַּהֲבָ֛א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ימֶת לָ֥א סָֽגְדִֽין׃
And to the image of gold that I have set up,
ye are not paying homage!?
Daniel 3:15
כְּעַ֞ן הֵ֧ן אִֽיתֵיכ֣וֹן עֲתִידִ֗ין
Now, if ye be ready then,
דִּ֣י בְעִדָּנָ֡א דִּֽי־תִשְׁמְע֡וּן
So that at the time when ye will hear
קָ֣ל קַרְנָ֣א מַשְׁרוֹקִיתָ֣א קיתרס קַתְרֹ֣ס שַׂבְּכָ֡א
The sound of the horn — the pipe + kitharos + sambuca,
פְּסַנְתֵּרִין֩ וְסוּמְפֹּ֨נְיָ֜ה וְכֹ֣ל ׀ זְנֵ֣י זְמָרָ֗א
psalterion and symphonia,
and all kinds of musical sound,
תִּפְּל֣וּן וְתִסְגְּדוּן֮ לְצַלְמָ֣א דִֽי־עַבְדֵת֒
Ye shall fall down and ye shall do homage to the image of gold that I have made;
וְהֵן֙ לָ֣א תִסְגְּד֔וּן בַּהּ־שַׁעֲתָ֣ה תִתְרְמ֔וֹן
But if ye should not do homage,
at that moment ye shall be thrown,
לְגֽוֹא־אַתּ֥וּן נוּרָ֖א יָקִֽדְתָּ֑א
Into the furnace of fire, currently burning;
וּמַן־ה֣וּא אֱלָ֔הּ דֵּ֥י יְשֵֽׁיזְבִנְכ֖וֹן מִן־יְדָֽי׃
And who is the god, that can rescue you, from my power!!!?”
Daniel 3:16
עֲנ֗וֹ שַׁדְרַ֤ךְ מֵישַׁךְ֙ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֔וֹ וְאָמְרִ֖ין לְמַלְכָּ֑א
Shadrach, Meshach and Aved Nego responded,
then saying to the king;—
נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּ֔ר
“O Nebuchadnezzar,
לָֽא־חַשְׁחִ֨ין אֲנַ֧חְנָה עַל־דְּנָ֛ה פִּתְגָ֖ם לַהֲתָבוּתָֽךְ׃
concerning this decree we are not needing to give answer to you;”
Daniel 3:17
הֵ֣ן אִיתַ֗י אֱלָהַ֙נָא֙ דִּֽי־אֲנַ֣חְנָא פָֽלְחִ֔ין
“If it be so, our God whom we are serving,
יָכִ֖ל לְשֵׁיזָבוּתַ֑נָא
He is able to save us:
מִן־אַתּ֨וּן נוּרָ֧א יָקִֽדְתָּ֛א וּמִן־יְדָ֥ךְ מַלְכָּ֖א יְשֵׁיזִֽב׃
From the furnace of fire currently burning,
and from your power O king, He can deliver us;”
Daniel 3:18
וְהֵ֣ן לָ֔א יְדִ֥יעַ לֶהֱוֵא־לָ֖ךְ מַלְכָּ֑א
“But if not,
let it be known to you, O king:
דִּ֤י לאלהיך לֵֽאלָהָךְ֙ לָא־איתינא אִיתַ֣נָא פָֽלְחִ֔ין
That your gods we are not about to serve,
וּלְצֶ֧לֶם דַּהֲבָ֛א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ימְתָּ
And to the image of gold that you set up,
לָ֥א נִסְגֻּֽד׃ ס
We shall not do homage;”
Daniel 3:19
בֵּאדַ֨יִן נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֜ר הִתְמְלִ֣י חֱמָ֗א
Immediately Nebuchadnezzar became filled with fury,
וּצְלֵ֤ם אַנְפּ֙וֹהִי֙ אשתנו אֶשְׁתַּנִּ֔י
And the expression of his face changed radically
עַל־שַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ
against Shadrach, Meshach and Aved Nego;
עָנֵ֤ה וְאָמַר֙ לְמֵזֵ֣א לְאַתּוּנָ֔א
In answer thus ordering to stoke the furnace,
חַ֨ד־שִׁבְעָ֔ה עַ֛ל דִּ֥י חֲזֵ֖ה לְמֵזְיֵֽהּ׃
To heat it up, seven times above what was normally seen!
Daniel 3:20
וּלְגֻבְרִ֤ין גִּבָּֽרֵי־חַ֙יִל֙ דִּ֣י בְחַיְלֵ֔הּ
And men – warriors of strength,
who were in his army,
אֲמַר֙ לְכַפָּתָ֔ה לְשַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ
he commanded to bind
Shadrach, Meshach, and Aved Nego,
לְמִרְמֵ֕א לְאַתּ֥וּן נוּרָ֖א יָקִֽדְתָּֽא׃
For casting into the furnace of the fire of incineration;
Daniel 3:21
בֵּאדַ֜יִן גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֗ךְ
Forthwith those men,
כְּפִ֙תוּ֙ בְּסַרְבָּלֵיהוֹן֙ פטישיהון פַּטְּשֵׁיה֔וֹן
They were bound in their coats, their trousers,
וְכַרְבְּלָתְה֖וֹן וּלְבֻשֵׁיה֑וֹן
and their caps, and so their clothing;–
וּרְמִ֕יו לְגֽוֹא־אַתּ֥וּן נוּרָ֖א יָקִֽדְתָּֽא׃
And they were cast into the midst of the furnace of the incinerating fire;
Daniel 3:22
כָּל־קֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָ֗ה
According to this, —
מִן־דִּ֞י מִלַּ֤ת מַלְכָּא֙ מַחְצְפָ֔ה
Due to the king’s word becoming urgent,
וְאַתּוּנָ֖א אֵזֵ֣ה יַתִּ֑ירָא
And the furnace having been heated exceedingly:
גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֗ךְ דִּ֤י הַסִּ֙קוּ֙ לְשַׁדְרַ֤ךְ מֵישַׁךְ֙ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֔וֹ
Those men, they who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Aved Nego,—
קַטִּ֣ל הִמּ֔וֹן שְׁבִיבָ֖א דִּ֥י נוּרָֽא׃
The blaze of the fire, it instantly killed them!
Daniel 3:23
וְגֻבְרַיָּ֤א אִלֵּךְ֙ תְּלָ֣תֵּה֔וֹן שַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ
And those men, the three of them,
Shadrach, Meshach, and Aved Nego, —
נְפַ֛לוּ לְגֽוֹא־אַתּוּן־נוּרָ֥א יָֽקִדְתָּ֖א מְכַפְּתִֽין׃ פ
They fell, being tied up, into the midst of the furnace of the fire of incineration;
Daniel 3:24
אֱדַ֙יִן֙ נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר מַלְכָּ֔א תְּוַ֖הּ וְקָ֣ם בְּהִתְבְּהָלָ֑ה
Then Nebuchadnezzar the king,
he was startled and arose in haste, —
עָנֵ֨ה וְאָמַ֜ר לְהַדָּֽבְר֗וֹהִי
Speaking up and saying to his inner-circle high-ranking officials:
הֲלָא֩ גֻבְרִ֨ין תְּלָתָ֜א רְמֵ֤ינָא לְגוֹא־נוּרָא֙ מְכַפְּתִ֔ין
“Did I not cast three men into the midst of the fire, being bound!!!?”
עָנַ֤יִן וְאָמְרִין֙ לְמַלְכָּ֔א יַצִּיבָ֖א מַלְכָּֽא׃
In response then saying to the king:
“For sure, O king!”
Daniel 3:25
עָנֵ֣ה וְאָמַ֗ר הָֽא־אֲנָ֨ה חָזֵ֜ה גֻּבְרִ֣ין אַרְבְּעָ֗ה
The king continuing and saying, —
Behold I am seeing four men,
שְׁרַ֙יִן֙ מַהְלְכִ֣ין בְּגֽוֹא־נוּרָ֔א וַחֲבָ֖ל לָא־אִיתַ֣י בְּה֑וֹן
Unbound, walking in the midst of the fire,
and there is no harm to them!
וְרֵוֵהּ֙ דִּ֣י רביעיא רְֽבִיעָאָ֔ה
Furthermore the Appearance, that of the fourth,
דָּמֵ֖ה לְבַר־אֱלָהִֽין׃ ס
Is resembling a Son of Divinity!
Daniel 3:26
בֵּאדַ֜יִן קְרֵ֣ב נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֗ר
Thereupon, Nebuchadnezzar approached
לִתְרַע֮ אַתּ֣וּן נוּרָ֣א יָקִֽדְתָּא֒
the door to the furnace of the incinerating fire,
עָנֵ֣ה וְאָמַ֗ר
In response and saying:
שַׁדְרַ֨ךְ מֵישַׁ֧ךְ וַעֲבֵד־נְג֛וֹ
“Shadrach, Meshach and Aved Nego,
עַבְד֛וֹהִי דִּֽי־אֱלָהָ֥א עליא עִלָּאָ֖ה פֻּ֣קוּ וֶאֱת֑וֹ
His servants, servants of The Most High God,
Go out and come!”
בֵּאדַ֣יִן נָֽפְקִ֗ין
Whereupon are exiting,
שַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֛ךְ וַעֲבֵ֥ד נְג֖וֹ מִן־גּ֥וֹא נוּרָֽא׃
from the midst of the fire,
Shadrach, Meshach and Aved Nego.”
Daniel 3:27
וּ֠מִֽתְכַּנְּשִׁין
Now being gathered together,—
אֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֞א סִגְנַיָּ֣א וּפַחֲוָתָא֮ וְהַדָּבְרֵ֣י מַלְכָּא֒
The provincial governors,
the deputy governors and the administrators,
and the king’s inner-circle high-ranking officials,
חָזַ֣יִן לְגֻבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֡ךְ דִּי֩ לָֽא־שְׁלֵ֨ט נוּרָ֜א בְּגֶשְׁמְה֗וֹן
Were observing those men,
where the fire had no power over their bodies,
וּשְׂעַ֤ר רֵֽאשְׁהוֹן֙ לָ֣א הִתְחָרַ֔ךְ
And the hair of their head was not even singed,
וְסָרְבָּלֵיה֖וֹן לָ֣א שְׁנ֑וֹ
Nor had their trousers altered colour;
וְרֵ֣יחַ נ֔וּר לָ֥א עֲדָ֖ת בְּהֽוֹן׃
Even the reek of fire had not come on them;
Daniel 3:28
עָנֵ֨ה נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּ֜ר וְאָמַ֗ר
Nebuchadnezzar speaking up and saying,
בְּרִ֤יךְ אֱלָהֲהוֹן֙ דִּֽי־שַׁדְרַ֤ךְ מֵישַׁךְ֙ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֔וֹ
“Blessed be their God,
the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Aved Nego,
דִּֽי־שְׁלַ֤ח מַלְאֲכֵהּ֙ וְשֵׁיזִ֣ב לְעַבְד֔וֹהִי
Who sent His Divine Messenger
and saved His servants,
דִּ֥י הִתְרְחִ֖צוּ עֲל֑וֹהִי
They who trusted in Him;
וּמִלַּ֤ת מַלְכָּא֙ שַׁנִּ֔יו
And the explicit word of the king they violated,
וִיהַ֣בוּ גשמיהון גֶשְׁמְה֗וֹן
and gave their bodies,
דִּ֠י לָֽא־יִפְלְח֤וּן וְלָֽא־יִסְגְּדוּן֙ לְכָל־אֱלָ֔הּ
so that they should not serve nor bow down to any god,
לָהֵ֖ן לֵאלָֽהֲהֽוֹן׃
Except their own God!”
Daniel 3:29
וּמִנִּי֮ שִׂ֣ים טְעֵם֒ דִּי֩ כָל־עַ֨ם אֻמָּ֜ה וְלִשָּׁ֗ן
“Now from me a decree is issued,
that any people group, nation, or language group,
דִּֽי־יֵאמַ֤ר שלה שָׁלוּ֙ עַ֣ל אֱלָהֲה֗וֹן
That should speak carelessness against their God,–
דִּֽי־שַׁדְרַ֤ךְ מֵישַׁךְ֙ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֔וֹא
The God of Shadrach, Meshach and Aved Nego,–
הַדָּמִ֣ין יִתְעֲבֵ֔ד וּבַיְתֵ֖הּ נְוָלִ֣י יִשְׁתַּוֵּ֑ה
Shall be dismembered,
and their house turned into a sewage dump;
כָּל־קֳבֵ֗ל
By reason of what is in full view,
דִּ֣י לָ֤א אִיתַי֙ אֱלָ֣הּ אָחֳרָ֔ן
That there is no god,
דִּֽי־יִכֻּ֥ל לְהַצָּלָ֖ה כִּדְנָֽה׃
Who can deliver like this!”
Daniel 3:30
בֵּאדַ֣יִן מַלְכָּ֗א
Thereupon the king,
הַצְלַ֛ח לְשַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֛ךְ וַעֲבֵ֥ד נְג֖וֹ בִּמְדִינַ֥ת בָּבֶֽל׃ פ
He promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Aved Nego,
in the Province of Babylon.
